At the end of the spectacular Aurlandsfjord, in the tiny village of Flåm, visitors find one of Scandinavia’s most unforgettable beer destinations: Ægir Bryggeri. Founded in 2007, the brewery takes its name from the Norse sea god Ægir, who according to mythology brewed the finest ale for the gods.
What truly makes the place special, however, is the brewery pub itself. Built to resemble a Viking longhouse, the interior is filled with dragon carvings, heavy timber beams and a towering stone fireplace that evokes the atmosphere of a Norse feast hall. Travelers arriving by fjord cruise or the famous Flåm Railway often step inside after exploring the surrounding mountains. Here they can taste house beers brewed with fresh Norwegian mountain water, ranging from crisp blond ales to dark Nordic porters, many designed specifically to pair with local dishes. Long communal tables encourage conversation among visitors from around the world, while outside the dramatic fjord landscape reminds guests how remote and extraordinary this location really is.
Combining mythology, landscape and craft brewing, Ægir Bryggeri offers something rare in beer tourism: the feeling of sharing a drink in a Viking hall at the edge of one of the world’s most beautiful fjords.
